President Trump's job approval rating at 40% in MI

The poll surveyed more than 1,400 voters nationwide via telephone from May 17 to 23.

While President Donald Trump was making his way through a multitude of worldwide destinations, his approval rating back home remained low.

Sixty-five percent of New Yorkers have an unfavorable view of the Republican president, off four points from the last poll a month ago, according to Siena College.

Trump took to his preferred social media network and touted the results of Thursday's Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential tracking poll.

The President embarked on his globetrotting under a cloud of controversial reports regarding the probe into his campaign's potential Russian Federation ties and the fallout from his firing FBI Director James Comey, news of which rocked Washington earlier this month.

Democrats in Congress received a negative job approval rating of 77 percent, while 81 percent rated the congressional GOP's performance as negative.

Trump shared an image that celebrated his 48 percent approval rating as measured by Rasmussen Reports, a conservative-leaning pollster.

A majority of voters (59 percent) said in the poll that Trump fired Comey to put an end to the investigation into former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn's ties to Russia, but 52 percent said they did not think there was collusion between Trump's campaign and the Russians during the 2016 election.

Almost nine in ten voters (88 percent) voters who supported Trump in 2016 said they approved of his performance, including 47 percent who strongly approved.

MRG says that last fall only 29% of voters had a positive impression of Trump, while 60% viewed him negatively. And two-thirds want to keep the Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare, rather than adopt the repeal and replacement plan approved by the Republican led House of Representatives.

On the impeachment question, 68 percent of Democrats said they were for the House of Representatives starting impeachment proceedings, while just 12 percent of Republicans agreed.
