The Gifted follows a suburban couple, Reed and Caitlin Strucker (Stephen Moyer and Amy Acker), whose ordinary lives are rocked by the sudden discovery that their children possess mutant powers. With the announcement also came the confirmation that the show has been titled The Gifted, which was at first the working title.
Obviously, that's just a teaser and the full trailer will be out next week, on May 15. The series will take place within the X-Men cinematic universe, allowing for appearances by those notable X-Men characters.
The world of the X-Men will be expanding on television this fall as FOX has officially picked Matt Nix's The Gifted up to series for the 2017-2018 TV Season.
Director Bryan Singer is known for directing several of the X-Men films, and we can expect the same style of TV show with The Gifted. While details are fairly limited, we do know that Jaime Chung will play the role of Blink, a mutant who recently appeared in Singer's X-Men: Days of Future Past as portrayed by Fan Bing Bing.
Forced on the run, Fox says, the family connects with an underground society of mutants "and must fight to survive". Singer will also executive produce with Lauren Shuler Donner, Simon Winberg, Jeph Loeb, and Jim Chory. Coby Bell, Emma Dumont, Blair Redford, Natalie Alyn Lind, and Percy Hynes White round out the cast.
