JFK's life, legacy to be celebrated on his centennial

May 29th, 2017 would have been President John F. Kennedy's 100th Birthday. At left is the Duke of Edinburgh and Kennedy's wife, Jackie, is at second left. To mark that milestone, Postmaster General Megan J. Brennan today dedicated a Forever stamp commemorating the centennial of the birth of our nation's 35th President, John F. Kennedy.

The John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum in Dorchester held a ceremonial flag raising at 9 a.m.

The leadership of President Kennedy was far removed from the leadership of today.

In Boston, the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum held a birthday celebration that included a cake made by the family of the baker who made the engagement cake for then-Sen. Kennedy and Jacqueline Bouvier, according to executive director Steven Rothstein. It's held several events this weekend to honor Kennedy's legacy.

For many, Kennedy embodied the promise of possibility in the postwar United States, presiding over an era of hope and ambition known as Camelot before an assassin's bullet killed him in November 1963. "Many of his key ideas are timeless".

On Saturday, the Library hosted a commemoration for the Peace Corps that he founded while yesterday, they offered a Space Exploration Discovery Day to honor his mission to land a man on the moon. "We feel that that is one way of completing our national service".
