Timberlake announced that he will be performing during Super Bowl LII, which will kick off from U.S. Bank Stadium on February 4, 2018, in a short video clip on Twitter alongside Jimmy Fallon, host of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
The actor/singer made the announcement on Sunday, Oct. 22, via a hilarious video he made with Jimmy Fallon ahead of NBC's Sunday Night Football.
JT fits the bill of a halftime act to a T: a mainstream, relatively safe megastar (never mind the "D - - in a Box" skit on "SNL") who is readying the follow-up to his last album, 2013's "The 20/20 Experience", and will likely launch a big tour once his new record is ready to drop.
Timberlake will earn the enviable distinction of being the only artist to appear at three Super Bowls, having previously performed at Super Bowls XXXV and XXXVIII.
It is not yet known whether Timberlake will be performing on the halftime stage solo or he will be accompanied by another guest/guests, which has become somewhat of a trend at Super Bowls recently. That year, the crossover artist's perofrmance with Janet Jackson on the song "Rock Your Body" was a cultural and political watershed moment after he pulled off her nipple guard and briefly exposed her right breast. Timberlake joins other recent headliners Coldplay, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry and Bruno Mars.
Speaking in a faux accent, Timberlake asks his pal for the time, to which Fallon responds, "I was going to ask you, sir, if you have the time", People noted.
As for what he hoped to achieve with his halftime show, Timberlake said it would be a success if it "feels like it unifies".
So was Janet Jackson "banned" from the Superbowl?
In 2004, Timberlake was involved in Jackson's infamous "wardrobe malfunction" during her own Halftime performance.
