Jude Law is in talks to join Brie Larson as the male lead in Captain Marvel, according to Variety. Her solo feature has been confirmed to be an origin story that will focus on the character of Carol and who she is instead of her superpowers.
Ben Mendelson was previously reported as playing the movie's as-yet-unnamed villain.
There's no word yet on what Law's role will actually be in the film.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe has done a very good job casting their movies, frequently hiring exciting, talented actors to take part in their seemingly never-ending quest for superhero movie dominance.
Interestingly the movie is planned as a prequel to most of the other Marvel movies, as it will be set in the 1990s.
In the regular Marvel Comics continuity, Carol Danvers made her first appearance in 1968's Marvel Super-Heroes #13. It's also thought Samuel L. Jackson may show up as a younger Nick Fury. It's also thought that Law will return as Mr. Watson in the third Sherlock Holmes movie with Robert Downey, Jr, although there have been few developments on the continuation of that franchise (which is produced by Fantastic Beasts' Lionel Wigram). Both of those films are set up at Warner Brothers.
"Captain Marvel" is slated for release March 8, 2019. Let us know down below! He finds his way back to Earth, where he dons the mantle of Captain Marvel, an alien savior/superhero who gets into some really weird stuff.
