"It's not like any truck that you've ever driven", Tesla CEO Elon Musk hyped from the stage at Tesla's LA facility. And for vehicles, period. Tesla also could equip its trucks with the semi-autonomous driving features found in its cars, like automatic braking and lane changing.

Although no prices for the Roadster or Tesla Semi were announced, Musk was at pains to stress the both the performance and economic benefits of the vehicles.

"What does it feel like to drive this truck?" he asked rhetorically. It's way behind on production of the Model 3, a new lower-cost sedan. "When we take off, if we're at full power, we'll go Plaid, we'll go Plaid", says the Tesla employee giving the Roadster test ride.

Musk rattled off Semi statistics aimed at putting diesel trucks to shame.

Between this and potentially lower costs to maintain the trucks, Tesla boasts a strong chance of disrupting the trucking business, said Evercore analyst George Galliers in a note to investors.

"This beats rail", he added. Speeds can reach up to 104 kmph, which is more than what the diesel trucks achieve, while the battery range is around just above 800 km at highway speeds.

Shares of the electric auto maker rose almost 3% in opening trading Friday after the company rolled out Tesla Semi, an electric-powered big rig truck with a 500-mile range.

Could this be the electric truck the world has been waiting for?

After the prototype Semi truck was sent offstage, the lights dimmed, only to come up again, flashing in a sci-fi pattern.

This is a landmark moment for cars because the Tesla Roadster, previous deemed overpriced and relatively less exotic - is suddenly a bargain at ₹1.3 crore since it out accelerates the likes of a Koenigsegg Agera S, and the ₹13 crore Bugatti Chiron.

"Turns out there was some cargo in the truck", Musk deadpanned.

The Model 3 is expected to go into production in 2018, electric trucks in 2019.

Elon Musk surprises everyone with a new Roadster. "There's only thing that's beyond Ludicrous, which is Plaid", Musk said. The new Tesla Semi has been designed aesthetically and gives you a distinct look.

From Tesla Semi's 500 miles of range to the new Roadster's 1.9-second zero-to-60 time, the specs of Tesla's newest vehicles crushed expectations. That would put it, at least, near the 261 mile-an-hour top speed of the $3 million Bugatti Chiron.

The Roadster has a range of nearly 1,000 kilometers (621.3 miles) on a single charge with a maximum speed of 402 kilometers per hour (249.7 miles per hour).

"These numbers sound nutty, but they're real", Musk said.

Trucking company J.B. Hunt Transport Services said it had already placed multiple orders for Tesla Semi trucks. A thousand "Founders Series" buyers will be able to go to the front of the line for a vehicle once it becomes available, for an up-front price of $250,000.
