By New Year's Day, much of the Deep South will feel the Arctic breeze, Kottlowski said. The high temperature will be 22, dropping to a low of only 8. Temperatures will likely fall into the 10's with the wind chill near zero!

Another round of crew members will be ready to work through Friday night and into Saturday morning if road conditions require it, according to a release from the city. High temperatures will be near 10 degrees, and wind chills will remain below zero throughout the day. Even colder on New Year's Days with afternoon highs near 40 and wind chills in the 20's. Windchill values are going to drop to -12 to -20 degrees across Kansas when the clock strikes 12 to start 2018.

Wintry weather possible during the day Sunday, with a frigid temperature and wind combination by midnight and beyond. A few evening snow flurries will pass through, otherwise the skies clear.

A cold front moves in this weekend and arctic air follows! They don't get much better later in the day either. More locations should climb above freezing Wednesday afternoon. A northwest wind could gust to 40 miles per hour. High temperatures on Saturday may briefly creep above the freezing mark but that will be the last time for a while. Temperatures will drop into the teens early Sunday morning and will only warm into the low 30s by the afternoon. Expect "partly to mostly cloudy" skies today and if we learned anything from yesterday's forecast - these clouds don'y really want to leave. The agency warned that "an extended period of these temperatures could cause significant damage to sensitive vegetation, potential for freezing and bursting of outdoor pipes".

"We put some stuff in front of our fireplace because we had some cold air come through there", says homeowner, Angelica Theroux.
