Google has revealed the top searches of 2017 and it's an interesting read.

2017 saw dozens of gadget, including mobile phones, video games, virtual reality (VR) headsets, smart devices and several others being released, but people searched Apple's iPhone 8 the most, according to Google's search trend in 2017 in consumer technology category. The most popular searches overall of 2017 are Hurricane Irma, iPhone X, Matt Lauer, and Meghan Markle.

The iPhone 8 is the second most searched keyword on Google this year, next only to Hurricane Irma that caused catastrophic destruction and killed more than 150 people.

Lauer was sacked on November 29 from NBC News following a secret meeting where his alleged victim and her lawyer told NBC brass her story of inappropriate sexual behavior from the "Today" show host.

On a lighter note, the Super Bowl placed fourth, the solar eclipse came in seventh, and fidget spinners, the handheld toy with a cult-like following said to relieve stress, ranked No. 10.

Late musician and frontman of the Heartbreakers Tom Petty, who passed away in October at 66, was the No. 3 most searched figure.

The annual Year in Search analyzes Google Trends data to uncover "what the world was searching for".

Meanwhile, throughout the year's various natural disasters, people searched "how to help" more than ever before.

Apple had the strongest showing in Consumer Tech, with the iPhone 8, iPhone X, iPhone 8 Plus and Apple Watch 3 scoring spots one, two, six and nine.
