The story relies heavily on the firsthand account of Karen McDougal, a former Playmate of the Year, who recounts her consensual affair with the current president before he was elected. She drove separately from the President to the US Capitol to attend the State of the Union address on January 30.

"I looked at him (+ felt sad) + said, "No thanks - I'm not 'that girl.' I slept w/you because I like you - NOT for money" - He told me 'you are special, '" she wrote, according to the New Yorker. A friend provided an eight-page letter she wrote in which the following account of their meeting was revealed.

Still, for the sake of etiquette, Trump denies everything. "Such a polite man", the ex-playmate wrote.

According to Farrow, AMI said an amendment to McDougal's contract, which was signed after Trump won the 2016 presidential election, allowed her to "respond to legitimate press inquiries" about the alleged affair.

McDougal later expressed in her writings that she was extremely nervous prior to their date and also how impressed she was by his "charm". The New Yorker says AMI has only published nine of nearly 100 promised columns.
