Green Bay Packers release wide receiver Jordy Nelson, per report

A favorite of quarterback Aaron Rodgers, Nelson is entering his 11th season and has four 1,000 receiving yard seasons. "He has been an exemplary professional and teammate and greatly contributed to our success". Swoopes played two snaps in Seattle's regular season finale against the Cardinals, but otherwise has not seen much playing time. He signed a three-year, $21 million deal but played in only seven games before he was waived with the designation that he failed to disclose a medical condition (shoulder) in what proved to be an ugly divorce. Some of that can be attributed to the absence of Aaron Rodgers with a broken collarbone, but Nelson looked like a slower version of himself even before Rodgers gave way to Brett Hundley. And after the Packers rewarded Davante Adams, who continued to produce despite the QB instability, with a monster extension in December, the writing was on the wall for Nelson to be released.

There was a chance that the Seahawks would tag Graham to keep him in the fold for 2018, but they opted to let him hit the market.

The Seahawks lost both Paul Richardson and Jimmy Graham to free agency. The Packers have a huge hole at tight end last season after Martellus Bennett didn't work out.

In addition, he did not have a single game where he recored more than seven passes. They need to focus on greatest needs, including the defensive side of the ball as well as the tight end position.

His franchise numbers with the Packers puts him near the top in many significant categories: third in catches (550), fifth in receiving yards (7,848) and second in receiving touchdowns (69).

In that same game, Nelson set up the game-winning touchdown with a 38-yard catch to the Steelers' 2-yard line. Nelson finished 2017 with just 53 catches for 482 yards. All of a sudden, there will most likely be a handful of teams still in search of filling a void at receiver that will strongly consider bringing Nelson on board at the right price.
