John Oliver Mocks Plans to Arm Teachers as 'Trump in A Nutshell'

And the students most likely to get killed will be those who are disproportionately vulnerable to the state-sanctioned violence that already pervades America's schools: children of color and those with disabilities. "This would be a major deterrent, because these people are inherently cowards". Giving educators the tools and prerogative to exercise lethal force against a specific threat will make far more tragic outcomes not only possible, but inevitable.

"I don't support that, and I would admit to you right now I answer that as much as a father as I do as a senator", Rubio said. A review of the best available research shows no evidence that even a fraction of that number has significant experience with a gun.

On Wednesday, National Education Association President Lily Eskelsen García excoriated the lawmakers who backed the Florida bills.

It's an absolutely bad idea. You think they can really turn around and really defend themselves and these children against a shooter?

- Are teachers willing to point a gun at a student and take a life, even though it goes against the training they receive in dealing with troubled students? That is not a teacher's role. In a representative year, school authorities pinned down, tied up, or otherwise restrained 267,000 American schoolchildren, three-quarters of whom had some kind of disability; such practices have resulted in multiple fatalities.

Fox, the Northeastern criminologist and author of the 2010 book Violence and Security on Campus: From Preschool through College, said it's hard to say whether Gun-Free School Zones are responsible for that - for one thing, he noted, overall crime rates have been dropping as well. Not one active shooter or firearm negligence accident from the armed staff has happened. He experienced combat in Iraq and frequents a shooting range at least twice a month.

Although, according to Dalton police, the teacher, whose name is Jesse Randall Davidson, ultimately surrendered to officers peacefully, the incident was sobering. Just the opposite: "Police are allowed to have guns in schools", Fox said.

Oliver and his HBO late-night show had a First Amendment right to call Murray a "geriatric Dr". I struggle to see how this would be the most effective course of action, but I think it's worth looking at, piece by piece, why this isn't an efficient solution. I imagine that's expensive and would take a very long time to complete. Jose Oliva, R, as calling teachers with guns "the last line of defense". How likely is it for a bank to get robbed if several people are armed and trained who work in the bank? How would teachers, already drowning in paperwork and responsibilities not directly related to actual teaching, find the time for weapons training?

John Oliver: Donald Trump Lost Popular Vote On NRA's Terrible Plan To Arm Teachers

Funded by donations, classes are provided at NO COST to your school district!

And why are we even exploring this ridiculous idea? Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) broke with his party's leader on the issue during CNN's town hall event in the aftermath the Florida high school shooting.

That was not the case for a Broward County Sheriff's deputy - a highly trained professional - who was on the scene when the shooting started but remained outside the building. The president proves the accuracy of that assessment on an nearly daily, if not hourly, basis but no example is better than his current cure-all for eliminating gun massacres in schools: arming teachers! Dividing their attention even more with such a deadly object could make the classroom a more risky place, not a safer one.

Again, who's going to pay for this?

News 19 reached out to Senators and Congressmen in Washington get their thoughts on if teachers should be armed in schools.

The Tuesday vote came almost two weeks after a 19-year-old killed 17 people at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School with an AR-15 rifle. But it should not be the job of a school employee. However, the response to their fight for "justice" is quite alarming, with many schools stating that they will suspend protesting individuals.

Walker says resource officers and drills were implemented. If we prohibit civilians from buying these weapons - whose sole goal is to kill - then teachers won't need guns to defend themselves.
