Arguably the best goalkeeper in the world, David De Gea has reportedly told Real Madrid he wants to sign for them this summer but Jose Mourinho will only let him go if United will get one of three players in return.
There have been various claims of what United will offer De Gea in new contract negotiations.
Although United hold an option to extend De Gea's deal until the summer of 2020, both sides recognise that an individual elected the Premier League's best goalkeeper for four of the last five seasons merits an upgrade on his financial terms.
Indeed, De Gea is reported to be close to penning a mega £350,000-a-week deal at Old Trafford, as Mourinho looks to keep arguably the best goalkeeper in Europe.
It appears the Red Devils are playing a unsafe game, with Real still interested in landing the Spain number one as a replacement for Keylor Navas.
De Gea has been a long time target for the Los Blancos and was on the verge of joining them in August 2015 on a dramatic transfer deadline day but the deal failed through because of a supposedly faulty fax machine. He then signed a new contract at Old Trafford which included a €60million exit clause in Madrid's favour applicable exclusively in June 2016.
Rumours outlet Diario Gol claims that a top goalkeeper is among Ronaldo's demands and the five-time Ballon d'Or victor still (unsurprisingly) has good contacts with his former club, who have (somewhat redundantly) supposedly informed him the Spanish shot-stopper is in the form of his life. Mr [United executive vice-chairman, Ed] Woodward is not on holiday.
