The statement signed by Kola Ologbondiyan, National Publicity Secretary, reads: "PDP demands that the National Assembly save the nation from an imminent constitutional crisis by immediately commencing processes to address the current power vacuum in the country, following President Muhammadu Buhari's decision to embark on a private trip overseas without officially transmitting power to the Vice President".
Abuja - Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, said, yesterday, that there was a plot by the Federal Government to foist a one-party system on Nigerians. As we speak, Nigeria, as a nation is being pushed to the brinks and personal freedom of citizens under our constitution is no longer guaranteed.
To achieve this, the party said government had hatched a plot to humiliate and intimidate its members, including the Deputy President of the Senate, Ike Ekweremadu, and some governors elected on its platform.
"We have also been made aware of a special presidential committee put up by the APC Federal Government to persecute our leaders". Also we are privy to series of clandestine meetings between agents of the APC and some compromised judicial officers to get conviction at all cost.
The PDP spokesman, however, alleged that the President was desperate to have made his intention known with just 310 days to the general elections.
"Until he becomes the candidate of the APC, we will not spend precious time on his mere show of interest", the PDP said.
It further drew the attention of the worldwide Community to what it described as APC's "desperate attempt" to win the 2019 general election for which it said the government would stop at nothing, including resorting to undemocratic proclivities, to cage the opposition.
"Finally, as we move closer to electioneering season, the JM youths crave for more brutal fight against corruption and urge the Judiciary to join the 21st Century anti-corruption crusade of Mr. President,"the statement read". We however demand that prosecutions must be done in a credible, transparent, legitimate and constitutional manner.
"But when you had us struggling, preventing them from writing excessive number of votes or going out and keep mobilising to vote, we chose the former, which is preventing excessive rigging".
"This is in addition to a unsafe plot to arrest and detain members of the civil society, opinion leaders, the media and other professionals on trumped up charges of alleged politicization of security issues in the country, using compromised security and judicial officers".
Speaking with newsmen in Owerri, the state capital, Nwosu also said the zoning of the Vice President's slot to the South East by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, or any party was wasteful.
VAIDS is one of the key policies being used by the Federal Government to reposition the Nigerian economy and correct inherited underdevelopment.
