State police received reports of the crash and subsequent fire at the Bristol Commons townhomes in Williamsburg at 4.42pm.

A 911 call came in Sunday before 5 p.m. about an aircraft crashing into a residential structure in Williamsburg near Settlement Drive, Virginia State Police said.

As of 9pm search and rescue efforts are still underway, but at least one fatality has been confirmed.

Before the helicopter involved was identified by the FAA, the Navy had confirmed to News 3 that all Naval Station Norfolk and Naval Air Station Oceana aircraft were accounted for and no Navy aircraft was involved. Anaya said the victim was not the pilot, and it was unknown whether the victim was a man or woman.

A 91-year-old woman was killed after a helicopter crashed into her house in USA state of Virginia on Monday.

Leslie said he witnessed the helicopter crash into the building. "The whole house shook and then I just heard a loud "bam" and the whole house was on fire", Sweeney said.

Several apparent parts from the helicopter were laid on a red tarp on the lawn in front of the damaged building and were briefly examined by investigators.

The FAA tweeted Sunday night that they and the NTSB would investigate to determine a probable cause of the crash.

The crash was near the College of William and Mary.
