Mike Zimmer 'wished' Khalil Mack hadn't gone to Chicago

Derek Carr didn't expect Khalil Mack to be traded.

The Raiders sent Mack and a second-round pick in 2020 and a 2020 conditional fifth-rounder to the Chicago Bears for first-round picks in 2019 and 2020, a sixth-rounder in 2019 and a third-rounder in 2020.

"But it is what it is - it's part of the business", Carr added. It's one of those sucky things that happened. Giving up multiple first-round picks to land a player of Mack's caliber certainly got people talking, but the majority of folks agree: This was a move that will have an enormous impact on many teams, not just the Bears. "I think the hardest part is, I don't get to see my friend every day". If the Raiders struggle again in 2018, many will likely point to the Mack trade as a key reason why. Mack has been working out on his own, and Nagy said he looks to be in excellent shape, but his availability for Week One will depend on how he looks physically in practices this week, which began Monday morning inside the Walter Payton Center. You can call him a defensive end. With Mack on board, the Bears now have starter Leonard Floyd, veteran Sam Acho, up-and-comers Isaiah Irving and Kylie Fitts and Lynch in the outside linebackers room.

Carr said Raiders coach Jon Gruden discussed the move with the team. Pass rusher Bruce Irvin tweeted the same thing as Carr, except his version contained an f-bomb. To be completely honest, I had a lot of guys reach out to me before I even had to reach out to some guys and say, 'we're good man. "It really just shows that management and this organization, we're going for it, and you've got to appreciate aggressiveness like this".

"They're trying to divide us", Gruden said, via ESPN while addressing reports that he and McKenzie had differing opinions on whether or not they should keep Mack.

As good as Mack is, he's not giving a team "Hall of Fame quarterback" production.

"That's what makes it hard, because we all knew, me, Gabe, Khalil, Jelly, we all saw it coming", Carr said. You just hope it can work out. But we have him if we need him.

The Bears already have a stacked defense, and in a division that was thought to belong to the Vikings and Packers, it could make the Bears contenders.

"It didn't go away, because he's your buddy, but at the same time it went away because we have a game to get ready for".
