Third Kavanaugh accuser submits allegation to Senate panel

"This is not a trial for Dr. Ford; it's a job interview for Mr. Kavanaugh", Feinstein said before Dr. Ford began her testimony.

"I believe there should be an independent investigation", Baker told The Boston Globe.

Trump said: "If I thought he was guilty of something like this. yeah, sure".

Ford broke her silence after 36 years, telling senators she originally wished to remain anonymous but once her story became public, she believed it was her "civic duty" to come forward.

Kavanaugh has also been accused of exposing himself to a classmate, Deborah Ramirez, during an alcohol-fueled Yale University party a few years later.

Since Ford's allegation surfaced, two other women have come forward alleging sexual misconduct by the judge.

At a press conference in NY on Wednesday afternoon, President Donald Trump declined to comment on Swetnick's claims, saying he was a bit preoccupied at the United Nations to pay attention to the domestic scandals of the day, but dismissed her lawyer Michael Avenatti as a "lowlife".

Mr Trump said he was sceptical because he personally had been the target of "false statements" in the past made by various women. This is just completely made up, or at least not me. "People want fame, they want money, they want whatever". Patrick Leahy, D-Vt., asked Ford for her strongest memory.

"They're really con artists", Trump said of Democrats.

Judge denied the allegations in a statement from his attorney submitted to the committee.

The report was sent to the Senate Judiciary Committee Wednesday ahead of Ford's planned testimony on Thursday.

Kavanaugh denied the incident occurred, that he had sexually assaulted any woman in Rhode Island or that two men injured him and someone named Mark. "They took money in order to say bad things". Kavanaugh rejected the latest claim Wednesday as "ridiculous and from the Twilight Zone". "I don't know who this is and this never happened". She admits she was drunk.

"They are actually con artists because they know how quality this man is and they have destroyed a man's reputation and they want to destroy it even more, and I think people are going to see that in the midterms, what they have done to this family, what they have done to these children, these lovely children of his and what they have done to his wife".

And a day before Mr Kavanaugh's Senate committee testimony, a third woman, Julie Swetnick, alleged she was the victim of a gang rape in 1982 at a party the judge attended.

"They were laughing with each other", Ford said.

Ford and Kavanaugh are to testify Thursday about her allegations that Kavanaugh held her down, tried to remove her clothes and covered her mouth at a drunken high school party in the 1980s. "This is what has terrified me the most", she said.

Democratic questioners will include two senators widely seen as potential presidential candidates in 2020: Kamala Harris of California and Cory Booker of New Jersey, who aggressively challenged Kavanaugh during the judge's earlier confirmation hearing.
